Why it's in the news
Golden State leads the WNBA Finals 3-2, and Game 6 has been set for a Thursday 12:30 p.m. ET start at State Farm Arena because the Hawks had a game that evening. The change means a morning tip-off for West Coast fans, and a Game 7 would follow if the title is not decided.

Background
The Atlanta Dream are a team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the professional women's basketball league in the United States. The Dream played most of their 2026 regular season at Gateway Center Arena at College Park, a 3,500-seat building that is the smallest venue in the league. For major regular-season games and all playoff games, the team has been able to use State Farm Arena in Atlanta, a much larger building with 17,000 seats that is also the home of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.
The Dream reached the 2026 WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries. On Monday night in San Francisco, Golden State won Game 5 by 64-55 and moved ahead in the series, three games to two. A sixth game had been planned for Thursday in Georgia, but its time and arena were listed as to be determined because of scheduling conflicts. State Farm Arena had an Atlanta Hawks game against the Cleveland Cavaliers scheduled that evening, so the arena was not free for a primetime women's game.
The WNBA then set Game 6 for 12:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. Because of the time difference, the game will start at about 9:30 a.m. Pacific time for fans in California. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert thanked the NBA, both teams, State Farm Arena and USA Network for working together to make the change possible. If Game 6 does not decide the championship, a Game 7 will follow.
