Background
A tri-series is a short tournament in which three teams play each other in a group of matches, usually one-day internationals. Teams earn points or results across the group, and the strongest sides may meet in a final. It is a common format when three national teams are in the same country at the same time.
The current tri-series is being played in Pakistan, with Sri Lanka and England among the teams. On Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Rawalpindi, Sri Lanka beat England by two wickets in a one-day international in this series. England batted first and made 429 for 4, with Harry Brook scoring 202 off 114 balls. Sri Lanka chased the total and reached it with two wickets left. Pavan Rathnayake made 130, and Dasun Shanaka and Avishka Fernando each made 97. Janith Liyanage hit the winning six off the bowling of Josh Tongue.
The result mattered for the table. It ended England's hopes of reaching the tri-series final. A separate report states that England were later eliminated after Sri Lanka beat Pakistan, and that England would not play in Saturday's final. The sources do not give the final's full details, so no score or winner is given here.
