The background

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 24 — Showers and storms spread across much of Florida on Sunday. Forecasters in several parts of the state said rain totals of one to two inches were possible in some areas, with a few inland spots possibly reaching four inches. In Central Florida, strong northeast winds and high tides raised the risk of coastal flooding and dangerous surf along the beaches.

Rain chances were expected to remain into Monday, with high pressure building by Tuesday and drier air arriving by Friday. Forecasters said highs would be in the low to mid 80s early in the week, and temperatures could fall into the 60s by the following weekend. Coastal Flood Watches and Small Craft Advisories were in effect in the Central Florida coastal area.

What happens next

Forecasts call for a few morning showers Monday, a drier stretch later in the week, and a weak cold front by the end of the week.
